Today we are interviewing England’s up and coming star
Michael Roberts the 18 year old singer has just released his 1st
album which includes the smash hits “ Is this love?” and “last night”.The 18 year old signer from Cheltenham got
discovered through YouTube after his song “last night” got over 100 million
views he was then signed up by another English artist called Tinie Tempah who
had this to say about him “I see a talent in Michael that I haven’t seen in
anyone before and that is the main reason why I signed him up, and I think I
have made the right decision and Michael Is going to become a huge star “
Okay let’s being with the questions.
What were you thinking when you upload your first video to
YouTube?
“Well to be honest I only upload the video because my
friends reckoned I didn’t have the guts to upload it so I did and I got a
couple of views so I decided to make another and my friends wanted to be
involved in video so you can see them in video for last night and that’s the
one that got me where I am, so if it wasn’t for my friends I wouldn’t be where
I am so I have to thank them for that”
What was it like when you got that call from Tinie Tempah?
“Well at first I didn’t believe it was him I thought someone
was just prank calling me because at the beginning it was his agent so I only
believed it when Tinie himself actually came on the phone. Then he basically ask me to meet him which
was very surreal just thinking one of my idols asking to meet me”
Who influenced your music career?
“I am a huge fan of R’n’B/Pop music so I like musicians like
Example, Tinie Tempah and Labrinith these were my 3 main influence I would say
but if I would have to choose it would be Tinie Tempah I saw him in concert
around 10 times and I loved it and that’s the main person I want to be like”
If you weren’t a singer what do you think you would be doing?
“I would probably be at university and doing a course that
would help me in becoming a therapists because I have interest in the brain and
how it works and I always want to try and help people. Plus its really good
pay!”
What genre of music would you class yourself as?
“I am not sure what genre of music that I am classed as to
be honest I never really aimed to be a certain genre but I normally just look
at iTunes and see what they class me as”
What is it like to know that people pay to listen to your
music at concerts?
“Well it is
very surreal to know that people are willing to pay money and sometimes a lot
to just listen to me sing and also with that there is quite a lot of pressure
on me to make sure that I perform to high standard so they aren’t disappointed.
But yes it is very weird to know that and it’s really hard to describe it”
What have you spent the money that you have earned on?
“At first I
wasn’t sure what to do with it so I just went shopping and brought everything I
wanted but that got me told off from my parents so since then I have been
saving it but I do still live with parents but hopefully soon I can buy my own
house but it is nice to have the extra money”
What was it like when you found out you had won “UK’s best
upcoming singer award?
“At first I
couldn’t believe it I knew I had been nominated but I never expected to win but
yes it was a great honour and I am very proud of it and it was a perfect way to
round off my year and hopefully I can go on to win a few more of them”
What was It like making your first Album?
“It was very
unreal considering that time the year before I was still in school and I had
only written one song which was on YouTube, but it was really hard to get going
as I just couldn’t think of anything to write my songs about but then once I
got going the ideas and lyrics just came flowing in and I got it done very
quickly”
Do you have any tips for wannabe musicians?
“My advice is
just to keep following that dream and try to get people to listen to your song
a hopefully you will get discovered like I did and you can go on to become a
big star”
